Pinnell is from Northern Kentucky, close to the Ohio River (hence the album title?) and he's backed here by fellow Kentuckians The 55s, a local honky tonk band whose playing throughout is simply tremendous. A slow shuffled beat predominates with fatback pedal steel and fine electric country guitar decorating the songs. And the songs? Pinnell is well versed in the Hank Williams school of hard knocks; bad women and bad drugs are all in here rendered in classic country fashion but he's well able to hit a vulnerable romantic vein in the pop like swoon of "Sleep Song" which comes across like The Mavericks meeting Chris Isaak. click the pic to read the full review.
